DESCRIPTION
Khinalig
For those in search of breathtaking view, look no further than the picturesque Khinalig village in Guba region. Khinalig is an incredible tourist destination with its fascinating historical landmarks, delicious cuisine and picturesque mountains. For centuries, this village has been cut off from civilization by hard-to-reach mountains. After the road was paved, it became a place of pilgrimage for travelers. The village is located 2,000 meters above the sea level. The local winters are very cold and early, the temperature can be as low as -30⁰ С. Khinalig is famous for its unique language, peculiar customs and traditions. Due to the isolation, its residents managed to preserve their unique language, not belonging to any language group. The wonderful village nestled in the mountains strikes with its unique architecture. There are about 380 houses in Khinalig. Since the slopes here are very steep, the houses are built very close to each other. The roof of one house is the courtyard for another one located above. The picturesque village, included into UNESCO’s List of World Heritage is often called the museum under the open sky.
Guba
Guba, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Azerbaijan, is beautiful at any season. Characterized by a unique natural landscape, Guba is a favorite tourist spot for its natural splendor. There are many architectural monuments around the region. The most popular places in this region: shady forest – Gechresh, Tangaalti gorge, Velvelechay River, famous waterfall Afurdja, included to the list of “Nature monuments of Azerbaijan”. One of the largest communities of Mountain Jews in the world is currently residing in the famous Red Village, located in Guba district. Also Guba is famous for its apples, which turned into symbol of the region. In addition to all the above, Guba is recognized as a carpet weaving center.
